School Visits

Loretta offers lively and engaging art sessions, readings, workshops and demonstrations for children of all ages, and hopes to encourage a love of reading, writing and drawing. She can also work with children on longer art projects such as mural painting, and picture book making.

For early years, reception or KS1 Loretta offers interactive story readings with props discussion, and drawing demos. Art and craft activities include making a pop up monster to hide in a den.

For KS2 and above Loretta’s workshops and demonstrations explore the process of illustrating and writing stories through igniting ideas, creating characters, and storyboarding. Drawing sessions focus on expressions, emotions and body language, and creating unique characters ‘with a twist’. These sessions encourage students to join in with some drama skills too! Longer art based workshops focussing on mark making and collage can also be arranged.

Older children and adults

Loretta is happy to visit your students to talk about being a children’s book illustrator, and to explain the process of creating a picture book and how the writer, illustrator, designer and publisher work together.

To arrange a visit to your school or event contact Loretta directly or arrange a school visit through Authors Aloud. https://authorsalouduk.co.uk/illustrators/

Testimonials

“Loretta was a pleasure to work with and is a talented workshop leader. The workshop was well structured and pushed the children to think outside the box. She responded well to both children and adults during the V&A Make-it workshops and the feedback from participants about the workshops was outstanding. The quality of the work produced went beyond what participants expected to achieve in a short amount of time. I would love to work with Loretta again and I will follow her career with interest.”

Programme Manager: Schools, Families and Young People – Learning Programmes, V&A South Kensington.

“Loretta’s event for us coincided with Halloween and, starting with her reading “A Monster’s Moved In!”, the library was positively buzzing with children creating their own pop-up monsters and disgusting packed-lunches! Loretta was on hand to engage with the children and encourage every one of them to turn their inspired ideas into creations they could take home.”
Geoff James
Manager, Library Services to Children & Young People, Islington Council

“The children were so excited when they heard Loretta was going to be coming in to our school. It was brilliant to have an illustrator visiting us. They enjoyed the assembly very much and her props were fun and engaging. Once Loretta came to our classroom, the girls were instantly focused and couldn’t wait to start making their own Monsters in the Den! Loretta’s template was easy to follow and the children coloured, cut out, and glued some fantastic monsters! Loretta truly inspired the class and we would love to have her back again in the future.”

“Wow! What can I say? The illustrations shown were just so amazing and of high quality. As well as myself, the children were extremely engaged and inspired. One of the children expressed how she was particularly stunned by how the emotions were changed on a piece of drawing. Extremely magical!”
